D flip-flop
A D flip-flop can be used to store a single bit. In this context it is also referred to as a latch. The D
stands for data
. The value at input D is saved precisely when input C=1 (clock) at the input. If C=0, the stored value is retained regardless of the input value D.
Truth table
C | D | Q1 | Q2 |
---|---|---|---|
0 | x | q1 | q2 |
1 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
1 | 1 | 1 | 0 |
Comments:
x = any (0 or 1) q = state of output Q remains unchanged
