D flip-flop

A D flip-flop can be used to store a single bit. In this context it is also referred to as a latch. The D stands for data. The value at input D is saved precisely when input C=1 (clock) at the input. If C=0, the stored value is retained regardless of the input value D.

Truth table

C D Q1 Q2
0 x q1 q2
1 0 0 1
1 1 1 0

Comments:

x = any (0 or 1) q = state of output Q remains unchanged
